" I thought it was a job well done, on a hard uneven surface ". " I thought we played some decent football throughout and once again kept a clean sheet ". " I thought we looked tight at the back with Shaun Wanklyn's distribution excellent , we seem to have more mettle about us this season ". " A very professional performance overall ". These were Manager Wayne Wanklyn's thought after picking up maximum points over the holiday period. With the wind at their backs Wokingham & Emmbrook looked the far more impressive during the first half. The visitors had the ball in the net after only three minutes but the goal was ruled out for a foul on home keeper Mark Banfry, although it looked like his own defender impeded him as Jose Gomez rolled the ball home. An Andre Stairmand free kick was almost headed past Banfry by his own player Matt Bell, the ball going inches past a post. A good build up involving Shaun Wanklyn and the impressive David Bellis released Richard Bland but home keeper Banfrey tipped the effort over he bar. A decent build up from the back in the 27th minute saw Stairmand put Bland into the area, from the corner of the box Bland drilled his shot low across the keeper into the far corner to give Wokingham the lead. A strong run by " Wick's " Adam Hickey ended with Wanklyn getting across well to tidy up the danger. A foul on Gomez some 25 yards out saw James Wise force Banfrey to tip over the bar. When the home side did attack they really didn't look like scoring, and with Stuart Harris's handling good the goal threat didn't come. Bland had the ball in the net in the 38th minute but the effort was ruled out for offside, and minutes later the same player hit the ball into the side netting. The second half started with Wokingham increasing their lead in the 47th minute. From just inside their own half Grant Lewin played the ball square to Wanklyn who's exquisite ball between two defenders was chested down by Wise and taken in his stride before slotting past the advancing Banfrey. An excellent goal. From this point their was only going to be one winner. The home sides only real chance of the half fell to Hickey but he headed wide. Looking comfortable Shane Cooper - Clarke and Sam Duffelen replaced Wise and Gomez. Bland twice went close to increasing the lead but on both occasions Banfrey denied the striker. Wanklyn then limped off to be replaced by debutant Chris Byrne and the young defender was soon in the action intercepting two crosses with his head. The final threat from the home side came on the break but Wayne Elliott fired into the side netting. The remaining minutes were played out with ease to secure an important win, Wokingham still unbeaten in the league this season sit proudly on top of the table. Much to the delight of the 40 or so travelling supporters.
