Farnborough Res 0, Wokingham & Emmbrook 2
Tuesday 18th August 2009

Wokingham & Emmbrook's excellent start to the new season continued at Farnborough last Tuesday evening when two second half goals were enough to make it nine points out of nine and return Wokingham to the top of the table. The opening 45 minutes probably belonged to the young Farnborough side who knocked the ball around confidently and created a couple of good chances. Even so Wokingham looked dangerous when they went forward once again the pace of Richard Bland and Luke Lee was a problem for the home defence. A good Wokingham build up came to an end when Grant Lewin was picked out on the right by Bland, but a poor touch let him down. At the other end a Jonathan Brown first time effort failed to trouble keeper Stuart Harris. Harris produced a great save in the 16th minute palming Daniel Bowden's header from point blank range over the bar for a corner. Wokingham once again failed to settle in the first half and were careless at times. James Wise had to be helped off in the 26th minute, going down after a challenge.
Ben Rice replaced him in midfield. The home side's Alex Frostick saw his header rebound off the uneven surface and clear the bar by some distance. While at the other end
Darren Thorne's back header went just over the bar.
Wokingham took the lead four minutes into the second half. David Bellis burst into the area before being hauled to the ground by Luke King. The Referee Mr.E. Saleh pointed straight to the penalty spot. Shaun Wanklyn stepped forward to fire powerfully home from the spot although home keeper Ashley Scott did manage to get a hand to it. Wokingham
settled far better in the second period and had some good possession. Farnborough's Mo Harkin tested Harris low down early on. A good build up ended with Sam Duffelen bursting through the centre into the area but his lob wasn't quite high enough to beat Scott who had advanced. A Thorne effort lacked power from a corner that wasn't cleared by the home side. The points were made safe in the 89th minute when Wanklyn's fine ball released Richard Bland deep into the home sides half, withstanding a couple of challenges, Bland kept his composure to fire powerfully home. Manager Wanklyn again agreed that side were sloppy in the first half but improved in the second period. " I though Farnborough were a very tidy side that played some decent football ". " I thought we defended well throughout with both Grant Lewis and Andre Stairmand doing well, I felt confident we wouldn't concede ". " We showed a lot more purpose in the second half and we will always look dangerous when going forward ". " Stuart Harris's handling was good all evening and the save from point blank range was top draw ". This weekend Prestwood are the visitors to Cantley Park. Kick off 3 00pm and then two days later on Monday evening, Wokingham & Emmbrook travel to Milton Utd. Kick off 7 30pm.
