The U18’s have reached the halfway point of their season, and currently sit in second spot of the Allied Counties Premier Division, in the semi-final of the Berks & Bucks County Cup, as well as still being in the League Cup. Manager Roger Herridge is pleased with the season so far, saying “The boys have performed wonders this season, we are in a league were all the teams around us with the exception of Henley Town, have senior sides playing at much higher level than ours. Both Hayes & Yeading, and Wealdstone have scholarships, meaning their squad get together every afternoon to train. We have also had to deal with playing are home fixtures at three different venues this season, and the boys have adapted well to this. It was a great win on Monday night over Northwood, we had some excellent individual performances all over the park, with several players pushing to join Shane, Dan, Alex and Josh in the first team squad. The boy’s next game is away to Reading Town, on Monday 15th, 7.45 kick-off.

![]() | The first team were held to a 1-1 draw at Henley Town last night in our rearranged Division One East clash. Ben Rice had given the Satsumas the lead midway through the first period, before Brett Rann levelled with almost the last kick of the half. Despite going close with efforts from Rice, Bland and Cooper-Clark in the second half the visitors could not find a way passed Henley’s regard. The results leaves the Satsumas a point behind Thame Utd at the top of the league.

The Clubs top goalscorer Michael Davies (bottom left) was handed his 1st team debut in the Satsumas 3-1 win over a spirited Faringdon Town, in the Berks & Bucks Intermidate Cup. It was Davies himself who opened the scoring for the home after Town had taken the lead early in the second period. Further goals from Ben Rice (top left) and Shane Cooper-Clark saw the Satsumas through to meet Bucks CC in the semi-final. Manager Wayne Wanklyn was more upbeat than the previous week, saying " I enjoyed the game that had plenty of good football, our attitude was spot on through out ". " I was pleased with Mick Davies's debut, he looked sharp and got into some good positions, at the back both Hanson and Byrne did well as did young Danny Horscroft out on the left ". " In all a pleasing performance and a semi final place , the first of two I hope ".

Wayne Wanklyn insists he won't overreact to his side's stuttering form in recent weeks.
The Satsumas were in imperious form before Christmas as a 10-game winning run gave them a comfortable cushion at the top of Hellenic Division One (East). But the league leaders have not had it all their own way since the unofficial mid-season break inflicted by the Arctic conditions. That continued on Saturday as a Henley Town equaliser three minutes from time made it two draws and a defeat in their last five games and reduced their advantage at the top to a solitary point over Thame United.
Wanklyn admitted his side had not been at their best since getting back to action, but he believes they are still in good shape as they prepare for a Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup quarter-final clash with Faringdon Town today. He said: "We have been stuttering a bit in recent weeks but it's important not to overreact to it. Since the break we have not got back to the football we were playing beforehand. But we are still in good shape, we're top of the league and in the last eight of two cup competitions - and sometimes you will have the odd sticky spell.Hopefully we will come through that soon and be on our way again."
Last weekend's derby clash with Henley featured arguably one of Wokingham's worst displays of the season. Yet they were still only three minutes away from taking all three points from a top six outfit. And a disappointed Wanklyn said: "The management team had a meeting afterwards and everyone thought it felt like a defeat. At 2-1 we had a couple of absolutely glorious chances to get the third which would have put the game out of reach. It was a strange game because we were not in any trouble for the first hour and yet we were really hanging on at the end. We almost saw it through and got the win without playing well, but a point is not such a bad result - I've always said the most important thing is not to lose against the teams around you and that's what we did."

Wokingham & Emmbrook turned in probably their poorest performance of the season against near neighbours Henley Town at Cantley Park on Saturday. As the final whistle sounded with Wokingham hanging on for a point , Manager Wayne Wanklyn was so incensed with his sides overall display ,when approached his response was a firm "No comment ". Shane Cooper-Clark had given the home side the best possible start with a goal in the opening minutes. However, Henley responded well and Brett Rann leveled shortly after. Neil Hannson restored the Satsumas advantage just before the break. Richard Bland then had two glorious chances to put the game out of reach, but fired wide on both occasions. The turning point in the game came when David Bellis received a kick in the face and to be replaced. This caused the Satsumas to re-shuffle, and Henley Town took full advantage with wide men Sam Whiting and kylo Atkinson causing mayhem down the flanks. With time running out, and the home side looking as though they would hang on, Rann popped up again the box to drive home a deserved equaliser for Henley with three minutes remaining.
Wokingham & Emmbrook "A" travelled to Steeple Claydon on Saturday in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup and came away from the game having lost 2-1 but having no idea how they managed to do so. On a truly terrible pitch the Satsumas totally dominated the entire match, played some terrific football in light of the playing surface and could honestly claim to have had 80% of the possession throughout. Michael Davies had opened the scoring for the away side and Claydon scored a bizarre equaliser when keeper Kieron Penglase's clearance smashed into an oncoming forward and rebounded into an empty net. But still the Satsumas dominated and chance after chance went begging as the home keeper made four tremendous saves, the woodwork was hit twice and open goals were missed. Just when the game looked like it would be going into extra time Claydon grabbed the winner with just three minutes left on the clock. Even after that the away side managed to miss another open goal chance from just two yards out and the game had been lost. Assistant Manager Dave Hobbs said afterwards " We have just been mugged. Fair play to Claydon because they never once laid down but we have just lost a game that we should have had wrapped up by half time. The pitch was the worst I've ever seen but both sides had to play on it and it suited them better than us. Good luck to Claydon in the next round."
The A Team ran out 3-0 winners at Linear Utd, with goals coming from Rob Maw 2 and Matt Czastka. The Sunday side were knocked of top spot, going down 4-2 at Polish Social.

Wokingham & Emmbrook crashed of " The Blue Fin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup " at rain sodden Wantage last night (16/2) losing 7-2 against the high flyers from the Premier Division. Shane Cooper-Clark and Richard Bland were on target for the Satsumas. Manager Wayne Wanklyn wasn't too down hearted. " I thought we defended quite well for an hour or so against a very good side ". " Their midfield was quite a handful who's movement caused us problems at times ". " I thought we worked hard all evening but it showed we have a lot of hard work to do, especially from crosses, we will be working hard on this during training ". I think 7 - 2 was a bit harsh on Wokingham , maybe 4 -2 would have been about right but to their credit they never gave up”

Wokingham & Emmbrook produced a lack lustre display to beat Reading District League leaders Sandhurst Devels 7-4 (aet) at Cantley on Saturday (13/2), in the Reading Senior Cup. Goals from Richard Bland (2), Luke Lee, Nick Bateman, Alex Luise, Jack Broome and Shane Cooper-Clark, were enough to see the holders through. Despite the progress into the Quarter Final's Manager Wanklyn certainly wasn't impressed with the performance. " How can I be happy with that performance, it was sloppy throughout and players didn't do their job's". " Possibly only a couple of players can be pleased with their efforts, no more". " For a side that have only conceded 2 league goals at home all season, to defend like that, I assure you this will be addressed ". " The only good thing was we are in the Quarter Final's " .
Wokingham & Emmbrook "A" produced a terrific performance yesterday to beat high flying Unity F.C. by two goals to one at Cintra Rec. Two more goals from Michael Davies (the second a stunning 25 yard strike) were enough to see the Satsumas take a further three league points but the defensive display by their back four was superb throughout the whole game. Manager John Davies commented "Our team spirit and togetherness was fantastic today. We were put under great pressure at times by Unity who are a very decent side but our defence in particular was terrific. It was a great team performance and every one of the lads can take huge credit for a very good win"
The B Team lost out in the top of the table calsh with Wrightchoice CSA Youth, with the vistors getting the only goal of the game with ten minutes remaining.
Sunday side manager Mark Prentice was pleased with his sides 1-0 win over D.C Streamers, taking them to the top of Division Two East.

Wokingham & Emmbrook assistant manager Rodger Herridge has hinted that losing their position at the top of Hellenic Division 1 East, albeit for only a few days, could have given young side a wake-up call as they look to claim the title. Wokingham, after falling away from the promotion picture at the end of last season, have led the way from the word go this time around. However, after winning all their games in hand, culminating in a 3-1 win at Milton United last Monday, Oxfordshire rivals Thame United topped the table for the first time this campaign. However, after a professional 2-0 win away at Kintbury Rangers on Saturday, the Satsumas retook top spot, and Herridge is determined not to lose it between now and the end of the season.
"I think it gave us a wake up call,” said the assistant boss.“We want to win the league, but the most important thing 's to finish in those top two positions and get promotion.
“As long as we stay top, though, we’re quite happy.
“Thame are hanging in there and had a good result last week, but I’m sure there’ll be a few more twists and turns over the next couple of months.
“We have both got a bit of a cushion at the top now – Henley are falling away a bit, Milton have lost two games on the spin and Holyport can be very unpredictable.
“Us and Thame have been the two most consistent sides this season.
“We had opened up quite a gap, but when Prestwood pulled out we straight away lost six points and all of a sudden that put Thame back in touch with us.
“We know it’s not over and there’s an awful lot of points still to be won.
“We’re more than up for the challenge of Thame and we honestly believe we are the best team in this league.
“We have learned an awful lot in the last year and there’s games that we have played this season that last year we would have almost certainly ended up losing.
“We’re a year older and a year more experienced and the lads have grown up.
“They have been that bit more clever in some of the games – they have stuck to the task and done what has been asked of them.”
This weekend they continue their defence of the Reading Senior Cup as they face Sandhurst Devels, the side they knocked out in the semi-finals last year. Last month, manager Wayne Wanklyn hinted that he may be forced to play a weakened team after so much of the season was lost to the frozen conditions over Christmas and new year.
Wokingham face a congested fixture list at the end of the season, with eight league games scheduled in just 21 days in April, not taking into account the three cup competitions that the Satsumas remain in.
But Herridge insists that the team will be going out to in on Saturday as they want another chance to show their talent at Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium in the final.
“Our priority is the league, but we want to win every game we play because winning becomes a habit,” said Herridge.
“We want another day out at the Mad Stad so we won’t be taking it lightly.
“You would think that the FA would look at the level of football we are in and extend the season by a couple of weeks, though.
“At the end of the day it will be a test, but the other sides that are around us will be experiencing very similar things.”
| The U18’s progressed through to the fourth round of the Allied Counties League Cup last night (8/2) with a 5-1 win over Thame Utd. Goals from Joe Finn (2), Mitch Flaherty, Danny Horscroft & Marcus Simmons saw the home side ease through. Roger Herridge said after the game “I thought is was a decent performance on a cold night and a very uneven surface. We were never at our best, but the front three led by Shane (cooper-Clark) were a threat all night. A lack of defensive discipline could have cost us in the open period of the second half, giving away a sloppy penalty, then relying on a smart save from Woody (Sean Woodward), with the score at 2-1.

| After a slight hiccup at Chinnor the previous week it was back to business as usual at Kintbury on Saturday (6/2) when a goal in each half from Richard Bland and Nick Bateman put Wokingham & Emmbrook back on top of the table after being knocked off in midweek by Thame Utd who won at Milton. Manager Wanklyn was pleased overall with the performance shown by his young side. " I thought we controlled it from start to finish , our attitude was spot on throughout and we defended well when needed". " Our midfield dug in and we looked lively, with the formation suited us on the day ". " For someome so young I thought Shane Cooper - Clarke showed excellent awareness and some of his touches were of real quality ". " It was nice to get the second goal although it would have been nice to get it a little bit earlier to settle us ".
The A Team beat Spencers Wood away 2-0 with goals coming from Jacob Bailey and Gregory Perkins. This win keeps the A’s in forth spot with a game in hand. The B Team completed a hat-trick of wins with a fine 2-1 win at Lowther Road against Woodcote Stoke Row Res, goals coming from Mathew Czastka and Robert Maw. The win leaves Tony Mathews side in second spot with two games in hand. |
| The Satsumas traveled to Chinnor on Saturday (30/1) and came away with a well earned point, Richard Bland give the us the lead midway through the second period, with the home side leveling with ten minutes remaining. " I thought we played quite well in difficult conditions , you know before the start how difficult it is to get a result here ". " We controlled the game throughout with Chinnor defending well but offering very little of a threat up front , we worked hard to get the goal and then switched off for a moment and paid the price ". I thought Nicky Bateman was outstanding in midfield ".were the thoughts of the man in charge with Manager Wayne Wanklyn away, Roger Herridge"
John Ansell's match report to follow Wokingham & Emmbrook "A" won 5-2 at home to Twyford & Ruscombe in the Reading Junior Cup. A very satisfactory first half performance (the Satsuma's led 4-0 at the break) was followed by an equally disappointing second half when the home side totally lost shape and discipline and most worryingly their usual tremendous team spirit. Credit should be given to the visitors for exploiting these facts and scoring two goals after the break to salvage a lot of pride. The "A" team scorers on the day were Michael Davies (2), Casey Warwick, Jake Bailey and the "evergreen" Dave Hobbs. Manager John Davies dismissed the second half display as "one of those things that happen from time to time" and is sure that "normal service" will be resumed next week. |

| The first team finally got their Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup tie played on Saturday (23/1) against a strong Milton Keynes side Padbury Utd. The Satsumas came out 2-1 winners with an excellent strike 4 minutes from time from Nick Bateman. Shaun Wanklyn had given the home side the lead, through a controversial penalty, in the first half. The visitors then levelled midway through the second period, Before Bateman's last gasp winner. Manager Wayne Wanklyn was pleased to get a game on after a six week lay-off " After the break we wanted a good workout and certainly got one, I thought they were a decent side who were certainly competitive ". " I thought it was quite an even game and the winning goal fitting enough to win any match " The Satumas are now through to last eight, as are the A team in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup. John Davies took his side in the opposite direction and played at Milton Keynes against Woughton FC. In a tight first period, the boys in orange took a one goal lead. However, the second half a completely different affair, with the visitors rattling in a further 5 goals, with the home side replying in the last minute. Goal scorers for the Satsumas were, Lee Kitching 3, Michael Davis, Jake Bailey and David Hobbs. | With the 1st teams game at Wantage postponed, the A team took the limelight over the weekend (28/11) with an impressive 6-1 league win over Ashridge Park. Goals from Luke Farrugia (20 mins), Craig Osborne (38 mins), a Michael Davies hat-trick(50, 58 & 70 mins) & Lee Kitching (80 mins). Luke Farrugia harshly sent off after 35 minutes so the Satsumas had to play the remaining 55 minutes with only ten men. Manager John Davies (left) was really pleased with sides performance “I thought our second half display was outstanding, I had to change the formation following Lukes dismissal. We decided rather than sit back and defend our lead; we would push for more goals, so scoring a further four whilst down a men was very satisfying”.

| Wokingham & Emmbrook started their defence of the Reading Senior Cup with a 2-1 victory over Reading League side West Reading. Danny Horscroft showed last weeks performance was not a one off, by netting from 20 yards. Top scorer Richard Bland (right) secured the win in the 89th minute.

Click here for the Getwokingham match report Click here for the John Ansell's match report | Wokingham & Emmbrook were involved in a seven goal thriller at high flying Holyport. Manager Wayne Wanklyn fielded side with only three players over the age of 21, this proved a master stroke as the Satsuma’s all-round fitness prove vital. The men in orange found themselves 3-0 down with just 38 minutes remaining. However an own goal, following good work from Luke Lee (left) sparked the Satsuma’s into action, and once 17 year old Danny Horscroft fired in the second from the edge of the area 5 minutes later, there was only going one side to win it as the visitors piled forward. Luke Lee then levelled, before the impressive Horscroft (right) scored the winner with the last kick of the game.

Wokingham and Emmbrook Football Club are in discussions with Southern League Bracknell Town over a possible groundshare.
Hellenic League Division One East table-topping Satsumas are on track for promotion, but their current homes at Cantley Park and Lowther Road do not meet the ground requirements of the Premier Division above. That has put their chances of going up in serious jeopardy, forcing club bosses to seek out an alternative venue that meets the Football Association's ground criteria which include a 100-seater stand and floodlights.
It is reported Wokingham have been given until the New Year to make a decision and chairman Mark Ashwell confirmed talks with Bracknell have taken place. "We're looking at all the options available to us and we get on well with Bracknell," said Ashwell. "We played an Allied Counties game at Larges Lane only last week. I sincerely thank them for that because we didn't have a venue. But we're exploring a lot of ideas and a decision will be made soon."
Wokingham currently play on a roped-off pitch at Cantley Park playing fields but the Borough Council refuse to sign a 20-year lease that would allow them to set up permanent home there. Satsumas also play youth team and reserves matches at Lowther Road but they do not have permission to install floodlights as it a built-up area.
The Catch 22 scenario means the club could be forced to move out of town, with Bracknell FC's nearby Larges Lane a likely alternative. It is understood other possibilities include a ground-share with Windsor and Eton FC and Ascot United.
Wokingham played at Windsor's Stag Meadow for three seasons after leaving their original Finchampstead Road home several years ago. The cost of upgrading Cantley Park would be in the region of £100,000, but Wokingham require a long-term lease in order to secure a grant from the FA.

| Wokingham & Emmbrook Under 18's were held to a 2-2 draw at Larges Lane, against a strong Hayes and Yeading side in the Allied Premier League last night. Manager Roger Herridge was left frustrated after his side had taken a two goal lead at the break, through Shane Cooper-Clarke and Alex Luis. "we gave it away in a mad five minute spell in the second half, conceding two sloppy goals. However, we can take a positive from the way the lads reacted once Hayes had pulled level, and we were unlucky not to come away with all three points"

| Crystal Palace come to Town Ex-Wokingham player, and manager Tony Calvert has entered Wokingham & Emmbrook Arena Vets into the National Veterans Cup. The first round draw has been made, and we have been drawn at home to Crystal Palace F.C. The tie is to take place at Lowther Road this Sunday (8th), Kick-off 2pm. Tony has an interesting squad with many ex-pro’s such as John Wark, Luther Blisset, John Dreyer, Bob Taylor, Tony Kelly and many local veteran players. Tony told the web site “Although we have some big names in our squad, it’s always difficult to say who will turn out on the day due to their other commitments. However, we should still field a strong side and I expect Crystal Palace to do the same. It should be an entertaining game, so hopefully we attracted a large crowd” The final of this competition is to played at Wembley, so there is certainly an incentive to progress. |

The Allied Counties fixture next Monday (2nd) at home to Hayes & Yeading has been switched from Reading Town's Scoure Lane, to Bracknell Town's Larges Lane. It will also be moved to the Wednesday (4th), with a 7.45 KO. The switch has pleased manager Roger Herridge "hopefully we may get a bit more support, although Reading Town is a good place to play football, it's a difficult place to get to from Wokingham. It would be nice for our achiveing side to play in front of a decent crowed"

Jack Gibbs gave the young Satsuma’s a first half lead, before further goals from Marcus Simmons, Joe Finn and the impressive Mitch Flaherty in the second period secured a fine 4-0 win. Manager Roger Herrigde was pleased with the whole teams attitude, saying” I thought we dominated the game from start to finish, and at times played some excellent football. Jordan Polston, Marcus Simmons and Jack Gibbs deserve special praise for the way they controlled the middle of the park.

The Satsumas produced a first half of pure quality, as a Richard Bland hat-trick, a close range effort from young defender Alex Luise and an own goal saw the side come in at the break 5-0 up, away to Newbury on Saturday (24/10). As often happens in games like this the vistor could not add to their tally and it was the home side who scored the only goal of the second half.

It was a good weekend all around for the Satsumas, with the A team and Sunday side following the first team with good wins, while the B team gained a point away to high flying Reading YMCA Rapids.

Wayne Wanklyn has urged his Wokingham & Emmbrook side to finish off in style as they prepare for a six-week break from league action. The Division One East leaders travel to Newbury today for what will be their final Hellenic League game until December. With cup commitments occupying every weekend in November, the Satsumas will be watching the progress of their title rivals from the sidelines until they host Farnborough Reserves on December 5. Wanklyn admits he is viewing this weekend as the end of the first part of their league campaign and wants his side to go into that break in winning fashion. He said: "We are out of league action for the next month or so now, so even though it will be a tough game at Newbury, we want the three points going into that break. It's important to finish this part of our season well, as that will put us in a decent position to enjoy the cup games in November, before we resume league duty."
This weekend's opponents just pipped the Satsumas to third place last season in their first season in the Hellenic League. However, a change of manager and large turnover of players has seen them make an inconsistent start to this year. But Wanklyn knows that the prospect of facing the table-toppers is likely to bring the best out of the home side - and he is backing his players to deal with that added pressure. He said: "Newbury were a very good side last season, and even though they have lost a few players they have come up with a few decent results in recent weeks. We are the side to beat and when you are playing the top sides you tend to overperform because you want to prove yourself. But our players are enjoying their football and showing they can cope with that. There's no arrogance among the players, no one is thinking of promotion or anything like that, but as long as we keep working and playing the way we are, I think we are better than the rest of the sides in this league."

The young Satsumas got back to winning ways with a fine 2-0 victory over local rivals Henley Town, in the Allied Counties Premier League last night (22/10). First team regular Shane Cooper-Clarke done the damage with two fine second half strikes. Once agian our young players produced a good performance in front of the watching first team manager Wayne Wanklyn, with James Charlton standing out in the centre of midfield.
|
| | Manager Wayne Wanklyn announced last night that the Satsumas had re-signed midfielder Nick Bateman from Bracknell Town. The signing goes to show the club are certainly going in the right direction, as Nick had been approached by premier outfit Ascot Utd earlier in the week, but opted to rejoin us. This follows Richard Bland’s decision this week to stay with Wokingham & Emmbrook, after he had been approached by Sandhurst Town.

The "Satsumas" assistant boss Roger Herridge believes last Saturday's 3-1 win at Prestwood promises a bright future for the team.
The Division One East leaders eased past the basement boys thanks to a Richard Bland brace and a Darren Thorne header.
And while Herridge, pictured, was satisfied with the result, it was the displays of the younger members of the side that was the main positive on the day. Two more members of the club's successful Allied Counties youth team were given their first taste of senior action, with both defender Josh Smith and midfielder Dan Horscroft making good impressions on their debuts. Added to regular starter Alex Luis and front man Shane Cooper-Clark, that took the number of 17-year-olds in the matchday squad to four.
It was particularly satisfying for Herridge, who takes charge of the Allied Counties side, and also stood in on last weekend for absent boss Wayne Wanklyn. He said: "Wayne's policy is always to bring the youth through. He believes that if you're good enough, you're old enough. We fielded four 17-year-olds on Saturday with more to come through and that's a big positive for the club and its future. It was a different type of game for them, certainly more physical than the Allied Counties games they are used to, but they all did enough to tell us they have what it takes. I spoke to Wayne about them after the game and I certainly think they will have a part to play in the squad over the next few games."
The Satsumas host Chinnor at Cantley Park today as they look to maintain an impressive eight-point gap at the head of affairs. And while Herridge recognises it will be another tough test for his young side, he is also looking for a chance to avenge a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Oxfordshire side last season. He said: "They had a great season last year, although this season they haven't started quite so well. But it will not be an easy game because they are a big, strong and experienced outfit who will be targeting us because of where we are in the league. But they came down last year and mugged us a bit, so while we need the three points to stay where we are, I think we owe them one as well."

The Satsumas traveled to bottom of the table Prestwood on Saturday(10/10) and came away with a 3-1 victor, with goals from Richard Bland (left) 2 and Darren Thorne (right) Young Allied Countie players Josh Smith and Dan Horscroft stepping up to make their league debuts. Assistant manager Roger Herridge said after the game, "Allthough I was not to pleased with the performance, we have come away with the three points and have seen two more youth players show they can adjust to life at senior level"

Wayne Wanklyn was thrilled with his Satsumas side's display at Thame United last Saturday and it left a contented Wanklyn believing his side's title chances were looking stronger than ever.
He said: "We were the better side, no doubt about it. We bossed the game, defended well had the lion's share of possession and created some good opportunities as well. And I have to say that I didn't see anything from them to worry us at all and I think the players thought that as well."
One negative from the weekend's clash was the dismissal of front man Luke Lee with 20 minutes to play. The striker was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence and will now serve a one-game ban - a decision that left Wanklyn furious. He explained: "Luke was sent off for doing something that we tell him to do every week, use his strength and roll the defender. But the referee then not only gave a foul, but booked him and it was a second yellow card. There was no foul involved at all, and that is something I just can't ignore. I was angry with it and it will probably cost me now. That's why I have not been happy with the FA's Respect campaign. Respect in all walks of life has to be earned, you don't just get it because of the position you hold and Saturday went some way towards showing that."
Today's trip to Prestwood looks to be a much easier task for Wanklyn's league leaders. The basement boys from Buckinghamshire have lost all of their first 10 games, conceding 53 goals in the process while registering just six of their own. During September they had a run of three league and cup games where they conceded a staggering 40 goals without reply. However, there was a marked improvement last weekend as they went down just 3-1 at Kintbury Rangers. Despite those facts, Wanklyn insists the game will get the full treatment and he will field his strongest possible side. He said: "There were rumours about them really struggling and possibly going out of the league, but they seemed to have a better result this weekend. We will treat the game the same as any other, try and get ahead early and go from there. I will certainly not be resting anyone because of where they are in the league, I will be playing my best available team."

Young footballers donned their new kit for the first time after two seven-aside youth teams merged.
Wokingham and Emmbrook Youth Football Club has merged the two teams, which took part in last season’s league, to create an 11-aside team to represent the club in this season’s under-12 league.
Self-storage company Ready Steady Store in Molly Millar’s Lane is sponsoring the footballers by providing the kit for the newly formed team.
Last season the boys played as Wokingham and Emmbrook Orange and Black teams.
They competed in the top division of the Berkshire Youth Development League, with the Orange team winning the League Cup.
Neil van den Dungen, youth section chairman, said: “It is refreshing to be supported by a local business that is looking to support the local community.
“The combination of the players into one 11-aside team is highly exciting and we anticipate a very good new season ahead.
“The club and team would like to thank Ready Steady Store for the striking new kit.”
Andrew Cotterill, area manager at Ready Steady Store, added: “We are pleased to support Wokingham and Emmbrook Youth Football Club by donating a new kit to its under-12 youth team and wish them all the best for the upcoming season.

The young Satsumas carried their pre-season form into the league campaign, with a excellent 1-0 win away to last season's Premier League champions last night (3/9). A goal from Jack Gibbs, following good work from Mark O'Connell down the right, saw the boys in orange repeat the scoreline of last season. Manager Roger Herridge (left) was more than happy after the game " It's always good to get off to a good start, and beating the reigning champions on the opening day is a massive bonus. We defended stoutly in windy conditions, and always looked dangerous on the break", it was great to see Jack get his name on the scoresheet. Match report to follow |
| | The A Team's opening game of the season ended in a nine goal thriller. Goals from Davies, Hurley, Hobbs and Kirby where not enough to beat a spirited Cookham Dean Res side, as the visitors ran out 5-4 winners. Manager John Davies remained reasonably up-beat after the game saying " We have a young squad here which will have no problem scoring goals but our defending tonight was absolutely shocking and we will need to cut out the silly mistakes made at the back. There are plenty of positives to take out of tonight's game for Dave and myself to work on in training with the lads". |

The Satsumas continued their fine start to the season, with a 2-0 win over South Kilburn on Saturday (29/8) with goals from James Wise (left) and a first for the club from the impressive Alex Luis (right). We traveled to Milton Utd last night (24/8) in the Hellenic League, and came away with a creditable 1-1 draw. The game produced some excellent football from both side. With the home side shading the first period, Satsumas keeper Stuart Harris (right) making two outstanding save. One of which was from the penalty spot. The second half was a different matter with the vistors dominating. However, it was the home side who took the lead through their star man Antony Alleyne. This inspired the Satsumas and substitute Shane Cooper- Clark (left) grabbed the equaliser in the 90th minute. The only disappointment on the night was captain Shaun Wanklyn being harshly sent off in the 5th minute of injury time for a second bookable offence. John Ansell's full match report

Manager Wayne Wanklyn rested several key players for the visit of Prestwood on Saturday (22/8), and it was not until the 67th minute that the Satsumas sealed the victory, with substitute Richard Bland (left) scoring a fine individual goal. The home side found the visiting keeper in fine form, and when they did manage to beat him the Prestwood defence somehow managed to clear the efforts of the line.

Wayne Wanklyn is delighted to see the goals flying in from his side as they make another strong start to the FTL Futbol Hellenic Division One season.
The Satsumas have found the net ten times in their opening three games, following up the season's opening 5-0 defeat of Penn & Tylers Green with an exciting 3-2 success over League newboys Woodley Town last Saturday, plus a 2-0 victory against Farnborough Reserves midweek.
Though Wanklyn admits that the thing that has pleased him most about his side's prolific start is the way the goals have been shared around. Seven different players have already got their names on the scoresheet and Wanklyn said: "It's great to see our goals coming from all over the park. I know we have got goals in our forwards with Luke Lee and Richard Bland, but having the rest of your side popping up with goals can really make a difference."
The Satsumas host Prestwood at Cantley Park tomorrow, before travelling to Milton United just 48 hours later on Monday.
But Wanklyn is confident that his young side will be able to deal with that hectic programme. He said: "We had a good pre-season and that ensured that the lads are looking quite strong and fit. And that's vital because the games keep coming until the end of August, so we have to keep chipping away."

The U18's beat Henley Town U18's in a pre-season friendly last night, goals from Shane Cooper-Clark (2), Ollie Cooper-Southwood and Mitch Flaherty saw them home in a 4-1 win. Manager Roger Herridge said " I thought the score line flattered us a little, Henley passed and retained the ball well throughout the game. However, we still have two or three players returning from holidays, and it all looks promising for this season" |

As Saturday, Wokingham & Emmbrook were made to work hard for their third win of the season against a very young Farnborough Res side in last nights Hellenic League match. Second half strikes from Shaun Wanklyn (pen) and Richard Bland were enough to see the vistors take all three points in a 2-0 win. |

![]() | The Satsumas were involved in a thrilling game against local rivals Woodley Town. It was Woodleys first game at this level, and they started the brighter. Taking the lead midway through the first half, however skipper Shaun Wanklyn (right) leveled on the stroke of half time. Luke Lee (left) then gave the home side the lead early in the second half. Woodley showed their resolve by bouncing back to level, before Richard Bland won the game for Wokingham with a fine indervidaul goal.

Manager Roger Herridge was pleased with the display "We were good value and should have won by more but there keeper made 4 or 5 outstanding saves. Shane's looking sharper than ever and got a great headed goal from a excellent Mitch Flaherty cross. The defence was outstanding. and Marcus Simmonds deserves a mention for a faultless display in the middle of the park"
| Monday 27th July 2009 Chairman Glenn Duggleby has stepped down from the position, stating "This decision has been reached after much thought and soul searching over the last few weeks. I believe I have done this long enough now and the time and commitment required to deal with all the stuff that constantly comes up is having a direct negative effect on my family and business life and probably I am not doing any of the three roles to the best of my ability. Clearly, Family and Business must come first. I hope to still be around to support and help out at ESSC". The football club wish Glenn all the best for the future, and would like to take this opportunity to thank Glenn for all his hard work and support over the years. More response to follow. |
| | While the Lads were recording a notable victory over Chalfont St Peter, the watching fans could not help notice that midfield man Nick Bateman and striker Sam Whiting were missing from the squad. It now looks apparent that both players will be plying their trade elsewhere next season. Nick Bateman had 40 minutes in a friendly for local side Bracknell Town FC, in their 3-0 defeat at Badshott Lea, while Sam scored a hat-trick for fellow Hellenic league side Henley Town over the weekend. In Wayne Wanklyns absences Assistant manager Roger Herridge said " It's always difficult to lose players with the ability of Nick and Sam, and we wish them both the best for the future. However, we still feel we have a squad capable of bettering last seasons fourth spot" |
| Monday 13th July 2009 The lads returned to training on Tuesday 7th July. On a rain soaked evening, Wayne, Roger and Dan put them through a tough schedule. With the main focus being on fitness, although Wayne commented "he was more than pleased, and thought the lads had kept themselves fit over the short pre-season break". Both the management and players were pleased with their new surroundings at Bearwood Collage. Striker James Wise felt it was a great surface to play football on. There were no new faces at the first session. However, Wayne most have been pleased with the contribution from the young lads from our Allied Counties squad.
