Wokingham & Emmbrook 1, Prestwood 0
Saturday 22nd August 2009
With 4 games in 10 days, Manager Wayne Wanklyn took the chance to rest players before the Milton Utd game on the Monday. Richard Bland , Sam Duffelen , David Bellis and Andre Stairmand were left on the bench against the leagues basement side Prestwood. However the move almost back fired on the Cantley Park side as poor finishing and bad luck almost cost them. They had to wait until the 64th minute for substitute Richard Bland to score a fine individual effort. Being released on the left Bland raced into the area before rounding Adam Slattery to fire home. Wokingham dominated from start to finish but failed to register the numerous chances they created. During the opening exchanges both Darren Thorne and Neil Hanson missed chances from close in. A good build up in the 15th minute ended with Shane Cooper - Clarke hitting the cross bar from close in and then Thorne had a chance cleared off the line. A James Wise effort deflected off Prestwood defender Alex Jones and almost went in. The outstanding Slattery then saved well from Hanson. Shaun Wanklyn then headed over from point blank range from an Alex Luis corner. It was then Wise's turn to see an another effort cleared from the line by fullback Gordon Anderson. As the interval whistle went it was had to believe that Wokingham were not well home and dry. The only Prestwood effort during the whole game came in the 35th minute when Danittia Gray's effort from outside the area failed to trouble Stuart Harris in the home goal.
The second half was a re- run of the first with Wokingham again dominating. Manager Wanklyn left it 12 minutes before making his first change with Bland replacing defender Thorne. Four minutes later came the second with Sam Duffelen replacing Billy Elgar who had just retuned from injury. Still Wokingham wasted a host of chances. Then in the 64th minute Bland broke the deadlock. Cooper - Clarke should have increased the lead after good work by Wise but stumbled in a good position. Andre Stairmand was the final change
coming on for the limping Wise. Two great chances in a minute were squandered in a minute when a Duffelen effort was cleared off the line and then Ben Rice fired over the bar
from point blank range. So a single goal was enough to take the points. Manager Wanklyn was not to happy about the outcome although the three points were what mattered.
" We certainly made hard work of it, we were poor in the box although some of our approach work was good ". " There seem very little desire in the box to score ". " I though Alex Luis did well for us at the back ". Next up for Wokingham are South Kilburn who visit Cantley on Saturday, Kick off 3 00pm, the London side are currently 3rd in the table and then on Bank Holiday Monday Wokingham travel to Eton Wick again 3 00pm .
