Wokingham & Emmbrook remain joint top of the league with Holyport after a 2 - 0 win against 4th in the table South Kilburn at Cantley Park on Saturday. In a game that never reached any great heights Wokingham did enough to secure the points in breezy conditions. The visitors had the wind at their backs during the first half and shaded the attacking. Even so Wokingham had a couple of good chances early on. From an Alex Luis free kick Shaun Wanklyn headed high over the bar, this proved to be the best chance. While at the other end the visitors threatened on a couple of occasions but failed to test Keeper Stuart Harris. Wokingham won a series of free kicks outside the area and it was from one of these that the Cantley Park side took the lead. Winning a free kick some 25 yards out James Wise stepped forward to hit an unstoppable shot that flew over the head of the London sides keeper Chris Christie, Christie not moving a muscle before it hit the net, this in the 15th minute. From the restart Wokingham worked the ball across the face of the penalty area before Richard Bland forced Christie to save low down. Wokingham's defending let them down allowing Curtis Roberts to make room in the area before firing high and wide from a good position. A good swift move ended with South Kilburn's Eric Hamilton crossing from the left, Curtis drifted into free space and only an excellent save from Harris denied the visitors an equalizer. A deep cross from Billy Elgar picked out David Bellis who saw his header only just clear the bar. The second half saw Wokingham with the strong breeze at their backs. The visitors broke early on and a well struck effort by Jerome Scarlett thumped against one of his own team mates and the danger was averted. Wokingham made sure of victory in the 49th minute when after good work out on the right by Bland, his low cross was parried by Curtis straight to Alex Luis who had the simplest f tap in's from close in. It could have been 3 - 0 minutes later but Curtis amends for his earlier mistake saving well from Bland and then Bland fired into the side net cutting in from the right. A push on Wise saw Wokingham awarded a free kick which Sam Duffelen took, curling just wide of the far post. Both sides made changes with games coming up this Bank Holiday Monday. The visitors Barry Oakes forced Harris to save low down. The final chance of the game fell to Wokingham. A good move involving Bland, substitute Shane Cooper - Clarke ended with Bellis's effort from 8 yards out being deflected over the bar. Next Saturday 5th September see's Wokingham at home again this time Chalfont Wasps are the visitors.
